3 year old not acting like herself could it be Lamictal

Sun, 08/13/2006 - 22:59
My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and had been on medication since 6 months old for seizures. We are now in the process of weaning her off of lamictal and just taking Keppra (she has been on both for about 7 months now). She has lost some of the milestones she had already reached such as potty trained...getting dressed by herself. The potty training is a no go at the moment!!! I want her to be normal and not get behind. She also has a sensory disorder and gets occupational therapy for it. She does not eat and the dr. is a little conderned because she has not gained wieght for awhile. We just had an inpatient video eeg, she has generalized absence and atonic seizures. I was just wondering if anyone else has issue with losing milestones, sensory behavior.(some days I have an angel and other days it is like a totally different child) Does any other children with seizures act this way.

I noticed a huge behavior problem with Emma-Leigh (just turned 3)when she just started Lamictal. Now that we have the right dose, she is back to her sweet self. When the dose was off, so was her behavior. Since your child is slowly being weaned off of the medication, I am sure it has an effect on her moods.

Thank-you for your comment I felt like I was going crazy. I just want her to feel good and her seizures to still be under control. I hope that weaning her off is a good move. I hate changing meds. but if this will help her be herself then I am all for it. How long has Emma-Leigh been on Lamictal? Is she taking anything else with it? Thanks again...Emily Klair's mom

Emma has been on Lamictal for about 4 or 5 months. She takes 50mg a day and 20 mg a day of Frissium. She is doing really well on these meds. About a month ago, her seizures were getting worse and she was falling everywhere so they raised her dose of Lamictal and it is working. Don't you hate this med game? It seems to work for a little while and then it wears off! How is your little one doing now?
