Feelings After Complex Seizures

Wed, 02/21/2018 - 17:06
Im 23 and found out iv got Temporal Lobe Epilepsy about 3 month ago when i started having these really weird deja vu feelings and a super watery mouth, I have been on my full dosage of Lamotrigine for about 2 month now and over the last few months on 3 separate Mondays i have had a complex blackout episode and then come round maybe a minute later after just staring into space.. when i come round my mind is all confused and memory is pretty much non existent, its scary for a bit but usually this passes after 12 hours or so. I had one on Monday there and this time round i have not felt the same since, its as if my senses and brain is totally different from what it was, almost like i have started my life all over again .. not sure if that's a good thing or not haha.. but overall its made me feel really strange with things like smells and noises etc. listening to music almost sounds different from before . not sure if its the medication or part of dealing with epilepsy,, Thanks for reading J

I'd say the symptoms you

I'd say the symptoms you mention are mostly caused by the excess activity from your temporal lobe epilepsy.  I experience a sour smell and taste with some of my seizures.  My mood can be altered after and even before the seizures.  The temporal lobe holds the amygdala (which is responsible for emotion) and one temporal lobe holds a center that is critical for managing memory.  I've always thought it is ironic that so many people use drugs illegally to get odd, neurological experiences while I work hard with my doctors to get these experiences, which are caused by my chronic condition, under control.
