Zonegran and side effects

Sat, 02/24/2007 - 15:49
I have been taking Zonegran for almost two years and over all have had great success with it. I recently have started having numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. Usually, this occurs after my legs are crossed or I sleep with my arm under my pillow. What concerns me is that it happens after a very short time and takes along time to go back to normal. Sometimes I will wake up in the morning and my fingers will be completely numb and cold. Could this be a side effect to the medication or something else? Thanks! Gina

Hello--started Zonegran  and generic Zonisamide 4 years ago and barely any side effects.  Now I am having tingling fingers and toes and feelings in the head also.  My blood pressure seems to be fine and I will be seeing my Neuro in 2 weeks.  Any thing come of your symptoms or see a Dr?  It is a weird feeling....

Hi Gina, I take Zonegran too. I understand the cold fingers and feet and numbness. How is your blood pressure? Do you have any other Health conditions? From what I understand, what could be going on is a circulation problem. Figure that you're cutting off the blood flow when you cross your legs. I have a question for you...Is it just your fingers or does it include your arm? Mine goes up my arm, but only the underside of the arm is cold, the top part is warm. Oh and as for when you wake up...I think that when we wake up, that is when our blood pressure is lowest. That is why when you get up you should sit on the side of the bed and wiggle your toes, or pump your feet up & down to get the blood circulating. It helps me. By the Way I have a heart failure, so my body has a hard time pumping the blood throughout my body. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me through this site, Dayna oh yeah...you may want to discuss these things with your Doctor. Any kind of effects you are having, they should be told about...although you may just get the same answer I get which is usually Hmmmmmm or Interesting....Ugh Docs!

Hi Gina- I am recently on Zonegran. It is doing very well for me so far. That tingling sensenation in extremities could be the meds or it could be a type of neuropathy. I have neuropathy from Diabetes so its hard to tell if the Zonegran is influencing it. You might have a talk with your Doc about it or check your blood sugar levels. Good Luck Joan
