Need a Doctor for ADHD Medication for Epilepsy Patient

Tue, 02/18/2020 - 18:09
My Epilepsy Specialist is willing to collaborate with a General Neurologist, Psychiatrist, or Neuropsychiatrist who prescribes ADHD medication and is unafraid to try it with someone who has co-occurring epilepsy. I live in Flagstaff, Arizona and my epilepsy specialist is located in the Phoenix metro area. So, I could see someone in Flagstaff, Phoenix metro, Prescott, Cottonwood, or Sedona if anyone has a doctor that they could recommend that they already see. I have already contacted the Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona, but they only referred me to psychologists. That doesn’t help because they don’t prescribe medication and I’ve already been tested and have a neuropsychological evaluation. As a matter of fact, I have several for over 20 years. I’m finally ready to try some medication. I’m going to go to one of the support groups next month to see if anyone has a suggestion there, but please if you know a doctor in Arizona that works with both Epilepsy and ADHD and is willing to prescribe ADHD medication, please post their contact information.

Hi, Thank you for posting. You may want to contact your doctor who manages your epilepsy care to see if they can provide you with referrals, (within your community) or would be willing to treat you for your ADHD as well. Additionally, if you have a primary care provider, they may also be able to help you find a referral or treat you for your ADHD. Some psychologists also work in conjunction with a psychiatrist, so you may want to consider reaching out to some of the psychologists you were referred to, to inquire about this and discuss the type of treatment you’re seeking, for additional recommendations. Or you may always contact our 24/7 Helpline, where trained information specialists are available to answer your questions, offer help, hope, support, guidance, and access to national and local resources. 1-800-332-1000, or contactus@efa.org. epilepsy.com/helpline
