Medication no longer working properly

Wed, 01/31/2018 - 13:34
Hi, I’ve had epilepsy since I was 9 years old, I’m now 22, I’ve been on topiramate for most of this time and it is really good at controlling tonic clonic seizures. The past few years i have had more and more partial seizures, especially when I am sick with a virus. I tend to have staring seizures, twitching seizures and also ones where I’ll go completely blank for a minute or two, all while being conscious. I’ve previously been told by doctors that this means I don’t have epilepsy so am always confused as to if I’m having seizures or not. Recently i have started having a lot of these seizures and it has caused me to have time off work and upon doing research I realised I may actually be having seizures. Does anyone else have experience with their medicine stopping working as effectively for certain seizures after being on the same medicine/does for years? Thanks

Yes, I was on Trileptal for about 10 years before it just stopped working.  My doctor switched me off pretty quickly.
