Lots of meds, lots of side effects

I'll try to make this short. I take tons of of medication: 3000mg Keppra, 200mgs of topiramate, 800mg of Aptiom plus 50mgs of amitriptyline for pain and 20mgs of ciprolex for anxiety. In the last 6 months I've had a lot of seizures. I have simple partial (or whatever new name they've given them now) and the Aptiom has been added in the last month and I have been referred from my regular neurologist to a epileptologist. Okay, so here is the problem: I have now have almost totally lost my speech. My new epileptologist thinks it's the topiramate but I've taken that for years and it's never been a problem. The speech thing is new, since the Aptiom, but he is lowering my topiramate. I'm fine with that, but since I can no longer talk, I can no longer work. My Dr. suggest I talk to someone about how I'm feeling... HELLO?! He was in the room while I tried to spit out my story. Not the most helpful advise. Has anyone had this problem on these medications before? I feel over medicated, still having small seizures and exhausted all the time. Advise? Thank you.

I've only tried two drugs, and I've had side effects from both of them - different ones. I can't imagine how bad things could get on so many medications. I am not a medical expert, but I have got the strong impression with my dealings with doctors that drugs are pretty much their answer to anything, and if one is giving you problems, you just add another to 'solve' those problems, but probably get more, and so it goes. Maybe 'alternative' treatments would help - certain diets can apparently help people with serious epilepsy problems.
