lamotrigine xr vs vimpat

Wed, 05/16/2018 - 16:06
Hi Everyone. i need some feedback on some meds. i'm 27 years old and have grand mal seizures, usually once a year but lately, i have had one a month. i was one Keppra and lamotrigine and switched to zonisamide to lamotrigine xr (the keppra made me crazy) the most current ones i have had were during working out which is insane to me because i was told working out is to help with epilepsy. My neurologist offered me switching lamotrigine to vimpat. apparently, if my hormones are off balance or high that can cause a seizure. However, im on birth control so im not pregnant nor have periods. anyway, i wanted to see what people thought about vimpat. ive been on lamotrigine for almost 8 years now so and i hate to change meds again but i feel like this one could be the culprit. i love zonsiamide so i won't change that one (i tried switching to zonsidamide and topiramate but apparently i would be at high risk for kidney stones) please share your stories with me!

Well Vimpat is newer and it does work well. We coupled it with Keppra and it helped reduce the number of seizures I was having. It also reduced the time in them and the post ictal state. Today I can have a seizure and the people around me wouldn't know I had it.If your neurologist wanted to put you on vimpat I would follow his medication rather then researching to find a medication I liked or thought would be better. Neurologists generally have patients the same age, sex with seizures like you have and that patient has been on that medication and it is working for them
