Keppra XR Cost

Tue, 11/26/2019 - 10:07
Hi, I've been on Keppra XR for a decade due to 2 grand mal seizures back in 2009. Nothing since then, all normal EEGs. My doc has been hesitant to switch to generic due to risk of break through seizures, but the cost of this brand name medicine with my insurance recently is out of control. I have a high deductible plan so I'm paying $400/month for the majority of the year. I am now pregnant with a second child, and will likely need to increase my dose, meaning even higher bills. Has ANYONE ever had success getting a deductible waived in a situation like this? We don't qualify for PrescriptionHope or similar support programs unfortunately. I just don't know what else to do. $400+ / month is a huge burden though. Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.

My daughter had great success

My daughter had great success with Keppra, but her insurance wouldn't cover it and we could no longer afford the out of pocket cost so she switched to the generic. No seizures, but the generic is I short supply. We finally found a one month supply, but it's almost non-existent. Look at the FDA website it talks about the shortage. I wouldn't think of switching until they straighten that out.
