Gabapentin for nerve pain

Wed, 05/30/2018 - 23:09
Hi all, I was curious if anyone has experience taking Gabapentin for nerve pain in addition to your regular seizure med. I'm well controlled on Carbatrol and my doc just prescribed Gabapentin for sciatica. He says it should be fine with my seizures/Carbatrol. I'm just worried that adding a med that is also used to treat seizures might mess with my current seizure control. Anyone been in this scenario? Thanks! Trece

OK think a little.

OK think a little. Phenobarbital was and for some and still is being used for sleep pills. I took it as a seizure medication. I wasn't sleeping well and the doctor could have increased the phenobarb but they gave me another med. That too could be used for seizure control. It never bothered me and had no increase in the number of seizures. If he prescribes the medication then he knows wither it can interfere with your medications. He went to college and worked his way up in the field before ever getting that piece of paper allowing him to practice. Even today they are learning and yes getting more information so use common sense and take it.

Thanks for the condescending

Thanks for the condescending answer.  I am well aware that seizure meds are used for other reasons and also well aware that doctors go to med school and graduate.  But thanks for reminding me why I don't post in forums, people think it's A-ok to belittle a stranger through a computer screen.  I guess I should have used common sense.

What a rude answer.........
