Catch 22

Is anyone else breastfeeding while on seizure meds? I’m on lamotrigine 50mg which is a low dose, but it’s been controlling my seizures. The issue is I’m also having to be on a medication for the affect it has on my mood (irritable, I’ll jsut sob all the time and anxious). Antidepressants/anti anxiety meds help mitigate this, but I’m having a hard time tolerating anything. We have a theory that I may have developed a sensitivity to medications affecting serotonin, which may have initially caused the seizures (I was on something for PPD/PPA). I’m trying to research more about safe seizure meds while BF that may not affect my mood and may also then allow me to get off antidepressant/anti anxiety meds which may in turn stop my issue with seizures. Sorry, that’s long and complicated, but I’m looking for anything to help.

I was on Zoloft, along w three other meds and did NOT breast feed. I personally felt they had enough in utero. My Neuro doc said it was my call.

I am on lamotrigine and I

I am on lamotrigine and I find that I get more irritable/anxious as the drug level falls before the next dose.  Do you take it once a day?  You could try the extended release or splitting the dose to make the drug level more consistent and see if that helps this side effect.

Keppra is well known to cause

Keppra is well known to cause mood disorder. So that is "normal". Antidepressants didn't "fixed" it. Just so you know.
