8 year old on Keppra thinking to switch to CBD oil.

My 8-year-old boy has had early morning seizures. The usual pattern is around 5-6 am we here him making some cries or breathing oddly. His head is shaking, his eyes roll back and his arms are usually shaking.I'm not sure which type of seizure this is, but they are not pleasant as many of you know. Anyway, his neurologist has him on Keppra. We are not sure if it's helping because the frequency is the same as before he was taking the medicine. We gave him a higher dosage as well as recommended by his doctor. Anyway, we are thinking of switching to CBD oil. We told his doctor and he was very negative towards "medical marijuana" or CBD oil. We were not really sure why he was like this, but maybe it's a stigma. So, now we are on our own. Any tips or advice? Thanks in advance

In addition to assessing the risks that your son’s doctor is trying to advise you of, please also check the laws in your state, especially concerning the administration of drugs to minors by adults even for “medical” purposes. In some states it may constitute child abuse and some adults (e.g. physicians, school personnel, clergy, police, day care providers, or in some states any adult) are mandated reporters by state law depending on the state that you live in. Remember that there are other anti epileptic drugs than Keppra and there are also other neurologists and tests that can be done to get the right treatment for your son. Someone from the epilepsy foundation will probably be responding to you during the week with some information on how to connect with epilepsy specialists. They often have access to video EEG monitoring and can make recommendations for treatment when you feel stuck with a general neurologist that doesn’t seem to be making progress.
