6 year old & ethosuximide syrup

Mon, 08/20/2018 - 05:30
6 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with absence seizures and has been put on 10ml of ethosuximide syrup twice a day (started on 5ml twice a day for a week and was told to increase dose). It has been flavoured with blackcurrant according to the ingredients however she absolutely HATES the taste of it and has started getting so worked up now at medicine time it took TWO hours this morning to get her to take it. Tried mixing it with a cold fizzy drink and fruit juice but this doesn't work. She gets so anxious and distraught she ends up gagging when taking it, has thrown up a few times whilst taking is or directly after. Immediately says it makes her chest hurt or/and her tummy but I think this is the anxiety more than anything else. I have no idea what to do, I am very worried about when school starts back up as I will never get her in on time! Any suggestions on anything else I could try mix it with to make it better for her, yoghurt maybe? or is there an unflavoured/better tasting brand I could ask to try?
