Muscle Spasms and corrupt doctors?

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 20:31
I'm 17 years old and I've been diagnosed with epilepsy since the farthest my memory goes, I don't remember a time I didn't have it. I used to have some pretty bad seizures when I was younger and went to various doctors for treatments. I was on at least two different medications at a time, which slowed me down a lot in school and caused me to fail first grade. During this time my seizures were still quite frequent, I remember going through every day wondering if I would have a seizer and have to go to the hospital. Eventually my mother just stopped giving me my prescription and I haven't had a seized since then, due to this, my mother believes my doctors purposely gave me medication that worsened my condition so they could get more money out of my disability. That was roughly 9 years ago. My mom thinks that I still have smaller seizures in my sleep but I have yet to go through anything huge like I used to. But these passed couple of years I have noticed that I've been experiencing more and more muscle spasms, typically in my thigh, butt area, upper arms, calves, ankles... Places you don't normally contract. These spasms are rapid and last less than a second but then they may or may not continue on and off for a few minutes. Sometimes those same muscles will just tense up, or rather twitch, for less than a second. That was mostly last year, but now it's beginning to affect my face as well and that really troubles me. It's mostly my mouth/jaw but when it happens it's quite noticeable and almost always happens in the middle of me talking - which is embarrassing sometimes to say the least. A couple of years ago I fainted while I was in the shower, I don't know how long I was out but I had a suspicion it had something to do with my epilepsy. I just want to know if muscle spams/tics are a common "side effect" or additional part of epilepsy and if I should see a doctor or get some kind of treatment for it. Same thing for the fainting.

Seizures can change over time

Seizures can change over time. Sometimes seizure frequency changes based on types of seizures and not due to medicines. Since symptoms are happening again, it would be a good idea to be re-evaluated at an epilepsy center. This would include a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy as well as other health care experts in epilepsy. Here is a link to find one in your area 0https://www.epilepsy.com/living-epilepsy/find-epilepsy-specialist/find-epilepsy-center
