Hour long focal seizures??

Tue, 09/04/2018 - 21:04
Hi, so before I start I feel like I should explain when my seizures started and what I got dignosed with. I had my first grand mal seizure at my school in January. It roughly lasted between 3-4 minutes and was caused by a flicking light in the hallway. I went through all the testing that needed to be done and got diagnosed with occipital epilepsy and photosensitivity. I had to get therapy sunglasses and pink tinted therapy glasses to wear at school, work and anywhere with fluorescent lights. (without them i get serve eye pain, headaches and seizures). I only had one other grand mal and multiple focal seizures to finish out my junior year. I was put on serveral anti seizure medications before discovering briviact works best for me. Over the summer and up to now I’ve taking briviact, vyvanse, and lexapro daily. School just started 3 weeks ago and I already had 5 focal seizures. All starting in my left hand having a tingling sensation. I do have auras before my focal seizures which consist of my left hand starting to tingle+hyperextends, feeling out of place and my heart bouncing up at 120bpm (my rest heart rate is 55bpm since I’m a polevaulter and I workout everyday). My face also gets blotch and my pupils get extremely dialated. The focal seizures that I’ve have last up to an hour. The first 30 minutes my whole body goes numb, arms begin to twitch and stiffen (I am still able to talk and communicate). The next 30+ minutes the sensation in my arms and legs move up to me face. Causing me to breathe rapidly, lose the ability to communicate and open my eyes (because my whole face is numb and my eyelids flicker). (I am conscious through all of this) After these seizures I always fall asleep and end up sleeping in the nurses office till I wake up. The one I had today consisted of everything and lasted around an hour and 15 minutes. Afterwards I had to have my mom walk me out to the car and take me home. I still feel out of it like I’m having a constant aura. My questions are: Has anyone else experienced focal seizures that have lasted up to an hour? Should I be concerned if they last this long? (Hour+) Could this constant aura mean I’m going to have another seizure later? (As in tonight or next day) Can emotional stress cause this to happen?
