Spouse with seizures caring for baby

Sat, 09/05/2015 - 14:53

My husband and I have a 9 month old baby boy. my husband's seizures are fairly under control (maybe 5-7/ year) but I worry about leaving the baby in his care if something were to happen. Wondering how others work this? Do you have some way to notify if there is trouble?

I have a brother that was

I have a brother that was born when I was 15. Pete (stepfather) was in an accident and was in hospital for 6 months, Mom had to start working again. Dude (brother) worked with her. So I was the one that took care of Tim (baby) while they worked. Hey we thought of a lot of ways I could do it. Back then (1966) there were very few things like this forum or even support groups. I know Mom worried but after telling her how I did things she eased up her worrying.I was having seizures about 3-4 times a month. I did a good job. Tim laid on the couch (curved) so he was in the middle. I pushed the coffee table next to it so if he rolled out he was on the table. I did my homework setting on the other side of the coffee table. I fed him and changed him. I used real diapers since huggies weren't even thought of back then.  I didn't have a seizure while doing that. He fell asleep and when it was late I put him in the crib. I laid down in the bed next to the crib. When Mom and Dude got home I went to bed. Depending on the type of seizures your husband has would also tell you more about the things different things that could happen. You might want to call the 24/7 help line since they have people there that can answer peoples questions.I hope this helpsJoe
