New to Epilepsy

Hi. My 6 year old son was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. I feel confused and alone because I don't know anyone else with a child with epilepsy. My son used to take febrile convolutions when he was little and now the doctors are telling me my son has epilepsy. I think I am still feeling a little bit shocked by it all and don't know what to do. Are there any other parents out there that felt this way when their child was first diagnosed???

Yes, I felt awful about my daughter's diagnosis (age 4). Somehow the information was delivered in such a matter of fact way, I felt obligated to take it in kind; like being told my car needs new tires. But it IS scary, it IS sad - certainly not what you had planned for your child. Allow yourself time to grieve. One word of advice: for the sake of your child, try not to hover. It's very tempting, but this is his life and he needs to learn to live with it. God's blessings to you.
