Advice for aging grandparent with epilepsy?

My 81 year old grandmother has had epilepsy since she was in her 20's, we often call her bionic grandmother because she has had numerous accidents, has had a heart attack, multiple injuries, and has still been "fine." Until recently. She has suffered from grand mal seizures since I can remember, but recently, we think she's been having atonic seizures, that have caused her to fall and have resulted in numerous fractures. But we've also seen her having other types of seizures as well, is it possible that from over the years from falling and having seizures has caused them to change, yet at times, remain the same? This has been a summer of a cycle of fall, seizure, fracture, hospital, rehab, repeat. My mom is her main caregiver and we are at a loss of what to do for our beloved grandmother. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

If a person can have a grand

If a person can have a grand mal seizure they can also have other seizures.I was having focal and petite mal seizures before I had a grand mal seizure. The seizures can and in many cases do cahnge with time. However some of the things you need to be looking at are side effects to all her other medication and looking at them. A medication for one problem can affect how the seizure medication will work. Also side effects to some medications can cause problems in other areas. I have a friend that has a seizure now and then. His seizures are not because he has epilepsy. One of the side effects to a medication he has to use for his heart can cause seizures. A diabetic can have seizures. So have your mother check with all her doctors and make sure all the doctors know all the meds she takes and varify that the side effects do not counter other medications or cause seizures in seizure prone people. That also includes over the counter medications..
