Why am I getting so many EEGs?

Tue, 02/20/2018 - 20:15
Hello! I am a 21 year old female with a history of two smalls strokes years ago. In August I went into the ER with a migraine because my tongue went numb. The attending doctor ordered an EEG which came back abnormal I guess? Something about sharp waves but not a seizure. I’ve tried 3 medications since then, and had 5 more EEGs. I just want to know if that’s normal? I’m starting to think it might be something else entirely, or maybe nothing at all.

First of all understand that

First of all understand that a person can have "abnormal brainwave activity" with waves and discharges on the EEG which indicate a person is prone to having seizures.  As a child I always felt foolish when I had seizures at home but when I went in for an EEG I felt no spells.  I wondered if doctors thought I was making things up.  But later I understood that the EEG was a tool they used to confirm the discussion we shared at our doctor visit and it wasn't necessary to have a seizure for them to know I was vulnerable.I'm not real familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of seizures that result from strokes.  I know that strokes can leave one with damage that can cause seizures, but I wonder if seizures could cause the strokes you have?  Ask doctor if increased control of abnormal brainwave activity will bring control of the strokes.  And if you disagree with the treatment you are receiving ask for a second opinion or even switch to another doctor.  They can all think and treat very differently.

Thank you for the reply! I

Thank you for the reply! I was just getting frustrated because they say I'm having simple partial seizures so I feel like nothing is wrong!
