Hi So I've been diagnosed in 2007 during school with epilepsy. For more than 2 years I have not had a seizure and for 2 years approx I have not been on my phenytoin and I never got a seizure while not on meds. So I am a audio engineer that requires me to work late nights at times. Ive never had a problem with the late nights until last night. So at this event last night I was offered drinks by the client(even if I get drunk before then it still wouldnt be a problem)I got pretty smashed and this event ended at 4am. I was working from 6am the previous day. I got a seizure this morning at home. Do I need to go back on medication OR was it from the hours working plus the drinking. I drank quite alot. Thanks

Hi, Thank you for posting. We cannot determine what caused this most recent seizure, so it’s important that you’re following up with your healthcare team to explore this further and if you continue to experience any changes in seizure frequency, types, behaviors and moods. Moderate to heavy alcohol use is never recommended for people with epilepsy, as it may worsen seizure control. Some seizure drugs have similar side effects to alcohol and using both at the same time can lead to bothersome and potentially dangerous problems. Learn more about epilepsy & alcohol here: https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/triggers-seizures/alcohol For some people living with epilepsy things such as, poor quality, or lack of sleep can be a trigger.
