Help with eeg- abnormal slowing? Encephalopathy?

Tue, 11/14/2017 - 14:34
So, I’m very new here. Starting at the end of September I had episodes extremely early in the morning, while driving, where my vision would get “smeared,” my stomach would jump into my throat, I would feel like I was being electricuted and then I would taste metal in my mouth. Afterwards I would be really tired and wiped out. I began having more of these episodes over time and after I had one at work, a coworker told me my right eye was completely dialated. I began seeing a neurologist who ordered an MRI and a 72 hr eeg. The mri came back negative. In the next week or so, I had another episode that seemed like it never ended and landed me in the ER. I was so sick and the floor was wavy and my word was moving in crazy ways. I could not function. They expedited my eeg and I just got the results. When I went to my neurologist he told me everything came back normal. I did not have an episode during the eeg, so I never pressed the button. However, I did request a copy of the report. When I got home, I realized that on the bottom it says “Abnormal significance- intermittent slowing, generalized” And also says the test was inconclusive and that I have a “very mild diffuse encephalopathy of unknown etiology” I called the neurologist office and they told me to “not worry about it” However, I’m pretty worried. Does anyone have any information or has anyone had a similar experience? Thank you, sorry it’s so long.

Hi,  I am interested in

Hi,  I am interested in talking to you more about this.  I am not a professional, but I started having seizures six years ago and for two years did not know what they were and didn't tell anyone about it.  It bothers me that the neurologist told you to not worry about it.  Especially because if it is epilepsy it could get worse over time.  If possible I would try to see a different neurologist.  I live in Washington state and in my area (an hour north or Seattle) I saw a couple of neurologists before I decided to go to Harborview (a major epilepsy center in Seattle) where I was treated with proper care. What you described does sound similar to what I first started to experience which is a partial seizure.  Almost like a sudden dejavu feeling, stomach jumped to my throat as you described, and taste of metal... and extremely exhausted and out of it afterwards.  For me an immense feeling of fear came along with it and lingered for the rest of the day.  I also had an MRI early on and it came back negative.  After documenting the seizures for months, I learned that it was my period that would cause them.  Other factors could trigger the seizures as well such as lack of sleep, and stress is a huge factor. Keep me updated as to what happens next.  I wish you luck.
