Do I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy?

Thu, 03/29/2018 - 12:43
For the past few years I have been experiencing very strange episodes (mostly when I am stressed) that are difficult to describe . Feelings of Deja vu, confusion, vertigo, apathy, hallucinations, loss of time, difficulty with memory, out of body experiences, and dissociation. There is always an aura before the episode and the recovery after takes a few hours. Occasionally, I will have clusters of episodes during sleep, which result in severe migraines for the entire day following. I had an MRI and an EEG, neither found anything abnormal. From what I have read, this sounds like TLE. Could this be possible even with a normal MRI and EEG? My neurologist offered to prescribe an epilepsy medication, but did not offer a diagnosis.

Sometimes sclerosis shows up

Sometimes sclerosis shows up in later imaging but that's what would cause them to think it might be TLE. If an EEG shows that seizures always start in a location that's correlated with the temporal lobe that's helpful but not conclusive.
