Am I actually epileptic???

Fri, 03/16/2018 - 23:46
Story time. I'm a type 1 diabetic. I have been for nearly two decades. I had one diabetic seizure when I was a child (though I was too young to remember it, and some tell me I was just close to having one.) About two years ago, I had another confirmed diabetic seizure. Three months after that, another one. There was some doubt on the second one, because I wasn't wearing a sensor that time, so there wasn't a constant reading. I had just checked myself just before the seizure and just after taking a sugar tablet, and while it read at a slightly low amount, i also forgot to clean my hands, meaning I likely had raw sugar dust on my hands. Apparently this wasn't enough for the hospital, and they sent me off to a neurologist. They did an EEG test, and told me that I 'had unusual activity' but the doctor said I wasn't fully epileptic. They started me on 100mg of lamotrigine/lamictal. Nothing. No seizures. But my A1C also spiked up, because I refused to let myself go below 120 just to avoid another possible seizure. Fast forward a year for a check up to a new doctor, bevause the one I previously saw quit or something. She tells me that they /never/ put people on 100mg of my medication, because there isnt a therapeutic level to do much of anything. She also tells me that the EEG test was done wrong, as I wasn't sleep deprived and had coffee. So, she orders a new one. Tests come back, and all she tells me is that I 'still had a reading' and to start taking my meds twice a day. But I'm so confused. I've been seizure free for nearly two years now, and apparently I haven't been on enough medication for it to even make a difference. Paired with the doubt surrounding the second seizure, and my A1C spike, I feel like they both were diabetic related. However, no one seems to be listening to me or answering my questions on why I need this medication at all if I was seizure free for this long on a near-useless dose of it. So, please help. Do I have enough reason to keep pushing my doctor to reconsider me? Is there some massive miscommunication going on??? Why am I getting conflicting information and not having my questions answered??? Is it possible to have unusual EEG results but not have a seizure disorder???? Please help. I don't trust my doctor anymore, but don't have access to someone else, and I could use some guidance here.
