Finally a Diagnoses

Tue, 04/04/2006 - 21:59
I had a Car Accident 8 years ago. As a result I started to have seizures. When I first started having them, I was told they were Anxiety Attacks. After I had my 2nd Grand Mal (the first was in the ER right after the accident), I got a neurologist. She ran some test but they were always coming out normal because I could never fall asleep. Well 5 years after having Complex Partial Seizures my first Neurologist said she could no longer help me so she was sending me on to a better Dr. I got to the Dr. Today and it was Dr. with the Oregon Comprehensive Epilepsy Program. He listened to me and my history. Read over my chart. And when I left after being there for 1 hour, I had the diagnoses of Epilepsy and I was on my way to getting the testing and help that I need to control my seizures. I know this sounds crazy..but after 8 years of Doctors not believing me that I am having seizures, it is good to finally have a diagnoses. That I am not making them up. To finally be getting the right help and to be getting the correct treatment options. I finally don't feel like an outsider on this board. I finally feel like I belong here. :) Leah

You most definately belong here! Many of us struggle with the not-yet-officialy-named seizures. I'm so glad for you, I know how comforting that must feel to have your feelings and more importantly your SYMPTOMS validated by a real diagnosis. YAY you! :) Still waiting on my confirmation, Christine cjcurls

I had a similar story of a car accident over 30 years ago with bad head injuries. I also was told I was having anxiety attacks. I would ask about my shaking and jerking over the years but all doctors said they were panic attacks. I was not panicking over anything they would just start and then end for no reason. I was abused as a child so they said that was the cause. No tests were ever done until I started to have Tonic Clonic Seizures. They sent me to a Neurologist and he put me on meds that now pretty much control my condition. I am happy that you have been diagnosed and hope you find the right meds to control the seizures. Good Luck. Hugs Joan K
