Zonegran, kidney stones

Tue, 06/02/2009 - 16:20
I have been on Zonegran for about 6 months with what I thought were no problems but, I just spent four days in the hospital and had to have surgery to remove a kidney stone. I drink about 10-12 cups of water a day. I have noticed recently my seizures have been worsening in intensity as well how often I have I have them. I used to only have nocturnal and absence seizures and now I am having what the Dr. described as partial complex seiz. and I had 5 in a row coming out from anaesthesia. If anyone knows of a med that is similar to zonegran, thats really what I need help with because when I asked the Dr. he just said well they ALL have side effects. Thanks

Hi, there. I am also on Zonegran (2 years now) and haven't noticed it helping my seizures (partial and complex partial 5-30/day). Recently, though, I started having cloudy urine and did a home test that revealed phosphates in my urine (can signal kidney problems/ stones). Did you end up switching medicines? I hope you are feeling better now. Stacey M.

Topomax is similar to zonegran, or so I was told.  My daughter was on topomax and changed to zonegran because of lack of concentration (which is a side affect of topomax).  Maybe it is something you could look in to.  Good Luck.
