Hello everybody, right now I’m in college trying to became a teacher or work in a daycare but people are telling me that I can’t work in a daycare because I might hurt the kids and they are telling me that I should think differently on becaming a teacher because of my epilepsy. Even through I have epilepsy I can still be a teachermany people have told me but now because of this I’m not sure if I can still became a teacher, can I still be a teacher? Please help me! In my life as a kid and now in college all I ever wanted to do was to be a teacher or work with animals, while I kind of don’t want to work with animals anymore I still love animals but I just want to work with kids and be with them full time. I am change my plans from wanting to work in a daycare, to wanting to work in elementary school.

So, first things first: You

So, first things first: You CAN become a teacher. I'm majoring in Elementary School Education and I fully intend on becoming a teacher. All that you need to do is what most people with epilepsy have always done -let someone know. If the school is worried about the kid's safety, something as simple as a class monitor would be enough. Furthermore, I HAVE HAD a class wherein the teacher had epilepsy. It was no problem. In fact, it was actually a good thing because, when I had a seizure in class, she knew exactly what to do. There was someone there who didn't freak out.Don't let other people tell you what you can't do, because they're wrong. Shut out their voices and think solely about what you want, then go do it.

You will definitely NOT hurt

You will definitely NOT hurt the kids! I am pursuing to be a teacher as well but will epilepsy stop me? No way. Sure, it may prevent some things but doing your dream job is the best thing anyone could ask for and you can still do it. Ignore those people, they don't know what they're saying. It'll be tough but you can do it :)
