Temporal Lobe Seizures

Tue, 12/28/2004 - 11:02
Hello. I am new to this site. I was diagnosed with temporal lobe seizures when I was 18. I was prescribed tegretol, which I took until I was about 26. I took myself off of the medication over time, since I was having fewer seizures. I am now 40 and experience a seizure/warning only every few months. I have not been under a doctor's care for many years now. My question is this: even though I have few seizures, are there other "symptoms" attached to this condition that I may have attributed to something else and that medication may help? Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

Angie,

Im T.J., I had a brain tumor removed when i was a sophmore in high school, im 23 now, i have posted a message earlier in the week about trying to get some feedback, well i was seizure free until 2000, i started having complex partial seizures, the type that even though im still awake im really in a dreamlike state not knowing whats going, anyway, i've been on medication while being seen by my doctor regularly, i have been through all different types of meds, in school my freshman year of college, i took myself off my meds because i was in denial that the meds didnt work, and i had to come home from school because it was taking over and i worried about them more than my work, now i have matured and have been taking the meds right now.  The seizures come and go, there slowing down, i was able to go back to school and now live a normal life, although like i said everythings regulated now, grades are good, if you have a chance to read my message posted earlier you'll have a clue what im saying, stick in there do what you have to do and everything should come together, its starting for me.  (i take Keppra and Lamictal) i dont know what your on, but look into that, i know im no doctor but hey!

T.J.,

I just read your earlier post, and I can feel your frustration. I know there have been many times that I have felt a seizure/warning/aura coming on, and I would try to "stop" it from happening. {Ha! As if...} Thanks for your encouragement, and I encourage you to do the same. I believe that you can accomplish great things in your life even though you have epilepsy. It's all in the mind. {Ha, Ha -- bad joke.} Seriously, though, I think the depression that can come as a result of epilepsy can be more debilitating than the disease itself. I am praying that God would strengthen you through this very frustrating time in your life. Blessings and Merry Christmas!!!

YES YES YES YES.........you may be having many kinds of seizures that you don't even know you are having.  I did for 2 years before i began to notice things.  After I noticed stuff - it got worse and 2 years later I was having grand mal siezures.

See a neuro - get checked and then stick with the program.  You'll be glad that you did.
