summer camp?

Sat, 03/31/2007 - 12:17
My daughter is 9 and went to a "spend the night" church camp last year. This was before we new about her epilepsy. She wants to go back, but I am so worried to let her go for a week. She has absence, myoclonic, and atonic seizures. She is taking Depakote, and seems to be doing well. However, this week she had an appointment at the eye doctor, and the intense light in the eyes, really set something off. Appeared to be having absence seizures during. She was wobbly after and needed to rest. Later in the day she literally fell of her seat. Did not see it but heard the thump, she says she just lost her balance, but she felt terrible the rest of the day. Pretty much unable to do anything the rest of the day because she felt so bad. This now has me worried again. What do others do when your child wants to go to summer camp? I don't want to constantly stop her from doing things, but really would like others opinions. Lori

Hi Lori, I have that same worry too. My 11 yo is going to science camp in May and I sooooo don't want her to go. She is also on Depakote and is doing okay, but I'm scared for her. I have made a huge list on rules for her - that I'm giving to the Principal. I'm going to meet with the cabin counselor (a high school girl) and I'm going to hold my breath until she comes home. Good luck to us all, d

Hi d - have you seen any of the camp info on the site? Wonder if the medical form would be helpful to share with the camp staff.
