Accutane and seizures

Wed, 09/30/2015 - 08:25

Does anyone have any experience with Accutane starting seizures in someone with no previous history of seizures OR making seizures worse in someone with existing seizures? I am considering putting my child on this medication and he has been seizure free for 12 years. I am afraid it may start the seizures again. I have read online that this is a side effect of Accutane and many people report having seizures after taking it. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I'd never had a seizure in my life until taking Accutane and this was 10 years ago. I'd never put the pieces together to think that this may have been the cause of my seizures until recent. Of course, If I'd have done research first, I would never have begun taking them but it was not something that was brought to my attention before taking the medication. There has never, to this day, been a conclusion as to what causes my seizures even after multiple tests/research but it seems like the answer has been sat right in front of me the whole time. I have to take Sodium Valproate for the rest of my life now to prevent any seizures. Accutane was a last resort for me as I'm sure it will be for others but it's not worth the future repercussion taking into consideration that others have had a similar experience.
