My deja vu is out of control,I need advise.

Thu, 10/04/2007 - 12:00
I have had deja vu since my pre-teens,it would occur about once every 3 mo.I have always brushed it off because I was told it was normal.I'm 23 now but since I turned 20 it has become more frequent now I'm have deja vu sometimes 3 times a day and I feel scared.I started researching it and eventually found my way here and thought maybe someone could give their opinion on it. The deja vu always comes out of the blue and I know what's going on around me but at the same time I'm entranced. Then after, I have the feeling that something horrible is going to happen and it's unsettling so much it puts my stomach in knots. It has become scary now because of the frequency of these ocurrances, well to the point I feel something is wrong with me.Am I over reacting or what could it be?Anyone who could share their thoughts with me will be greatly appreciated.

Hi.. If you haven't had any

Hi.. If you haven't had any testing, I suggest you get that done (asap) so you can get a handle on the cause and work towards fixing the scary sitaution. Then if the cause is a sudden surge of electical activity in the brain, the verdict would be epilepsy. And, yes there are meds to treat the situation. In fact, in most cases, E is successfully controlled with drugs. As I'm sure you already realize, it's impossible to diagnose anyone online. But ,as one who's had direct experience, I can assure you that your deja vu scenario and scary feelings are parallel to what's experiened via simple partial seizures. Thank you for the info first of all,I read the link on SPS and found it helpful I have also read other threads with the deja vu simularities and it is like they are telling my story.I used to think deja vu was cool until recently..If you don't mind I have some questions for you & if you would give me your opinion,it would help. 1.Does an MRI catch it only or is it a combo of test to diagnose the problem and is it hard to find? 2.Is sleeping problems accociated with E? (such as a leg jerk or frequent dreams of falling or waking up and not being able to speak or move) I spoke to my mother yesterday and asked her for some family info and what she told me was my two older brothers had febrial siezures and out grew them, but that I never had that, just tremors with fast motions(I dunno lol)and that my 2nd oldest brother had grand mal siezures later in his childhood thought to be related to cancer or side effect from it.He was terminally ill with his cancer and they never did any investagation into his seizures. He first had it in him arm then relapsed with it in his stomach (nothing in the brain)But knowing this now raises more question with my situation.I hope this info will help to get a better opinion if it doesn't just think of it as one of those "the more you know commercials" LOL Thank You, B

The MRI is one of the tests used to check out the brain for abnormalities. see: http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1066257900.html However, to measure to the electrical function of the brain the EEG is the primary test. Yet, as you will read, not everyone who has epilepsy will have an abnormal EEG. see: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/testing_eeg.html Some people do have seizures in their sleep (called 'nocturnal seizures') which can give problems there. One half of those diagnosed with epilepsy have no history of the condition. Best of luck in your testing. ~sol
