marijuana related seizures.. or something else?

To date I've had two 'seizures' the reason seizures is in quotations is because
I'm not certain that's what I've had as I've been told, I lose complete
conciousness for 2-3 minutes and convulse apparently. But when I come to I'm
hot, and sweaty but I can answer questions about recent events. Both times I've
'seized' I had smoked marijuana before hand, my first experience I had been
smoking all day, probably slightly sleep deprived and I was sitting in my
friends apartment, I felt slightly woozy. So I stood up to get some water I was
very hazy at this point it took a lot of effort to move around but I made it to
the fridge to get ice and then turned to the sink and filled my cup. By this
time my legs were very jello-esk so I sat at a chair in the kitchen and that's
the last thing I remember. I was awoken a few minutes later to my friends
calling my name asking if I was okay, my responses were slow, but accurate. At
that point in time I had been on a generic brand of paxil for depression
prescribed by my doctor. I had been taking it for about a week and a half at
that time, and immediately stopped taking it for fear that it caused the
'seizure' the next day I went back to the apartment and smoked a joint with my
buddy and I started getting woozy again so I told him I had to leave, I had
trouble opening the door because I couldn't find the knob. But I got outside and
started walking not very well, I was stumbling so I sat down and was sweating
profusly. But I took some deep breaths and calmed down. I had quit smoking for a
while until the medicine had cleared out of my system. Then I started smoking
again, I had no problems for about six or seven months. Me and my friend were
smoking at my house, so we went into my room after and started playing video
games. Mid game I started feeling woozy I was having trouble staring at the
game.. So I shut it off my friend asked me what was wrong all I said is 'I'm
just really high' and that's the last thing I remembered. My friend again was
calling my name and asking me if I was okay.. This time I had thrown up when I
'seized' but I don't remember being sweaty. I threw up again after I stood up
for a while and got a drink.. I'm about 6'1" my weight varies between 115-130
because I've got a high metabolism, i'm 19 years old and have been smoking bud since I was 15.. Without a problem until this year. I have low blood pressure, and i'm not really looking to be told to try medications, i just want answers.. even though the best way to get them would be to go to a neurologist i have no insurance and i don't get paid enough to afford that. The friend that was with me both times told
me I should seek medical attention..

Marijuana in epilepsy can be a complicated matter. More important, is exactly what you are smoking. Marijuana from the street is intended to make people high, and is not medical grade. You may be smoking a plant that has been sprayed with insecticides, and anti-fungals. Fungus loves marijuana because the seeds have lot of nutritive oil. Marijuna also has a lot of places that are dark and moist. Insects also like the plant. Fungus is a major problem for growers, the fungus kills the plant and the buds. Anti-fungal toxins are sprayed on the plant, as well as insectacides. Other chemicals are added to the plant, and sometimes chemicals are added to make a better 'high'.

There are many metabolites of marijuana. The two that most affects your high is 9 delta THC.

Marijuana has been bred in many strains, to produce better highs, and to increase yield.

The problem in epilepsy is that THC, in high levels (levels make make a really nice high), TRIGGER seizures. Too many hits for too long will trigger seizures. Marijuana as a medicine can work, but only if you use a strain of marijuana that may be therapeutic in epilepsy.

to be honest it doesnt seem like you have epilepsy.  that happens to my friends all the time.  it seems like you just like over exert yourself when your smoking.  Just dont go without food or sleep if you smoke alot andif  it happens again then you should definitely see a doctor about it

Ive been smoking since i was 14 years old and my first seizure was about two months after that. Ive just recently quit after 12 years and I've been seizure free for over two months now and am beginning to ween myself off the meds and still have been yet to have a seizure. I am skeptical to the whole marijuana and epilepsy treatment but then again there many drugs that are taken that can give you adverse effects. Im pissed thats its taken me so lonng to figure it outtt like a retttarrrddddd but on the other hand im glad i caught it before brain damage was horribly irreversible. So there is a possibility of it causing seizures and not just treating them thanks for listening and GLTA its been one hell of a ride.

I was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in October of 1999 after I began having grand mal seizures in 1998. I had taken several anti-seizures drugs but I don’t feel so fit to them. Until I tried marijuana which I’d taken 2-3 grams of it every day and in combination with my other therapies. Since I am not a Doctor and expert on this field, I can’t say it’s advisable but I know what marijuana does is to prevent me from having those seizures. Instant Tax Solutions

CBD from Marijuana will help with Seizures!!

My name is Jordan. Born in 1994. I'm 23 years old now. Been smoking marijuana since I was 13. Always made me feel better in life. Still does in small doses, and CBD ingestion from the plant!(Will explain) I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 17, when I had my first seizure in the middle of my senior year in high school. After having MRI scans, and having much more seizures, they said it was from a benign tumor, I've had since birth, in my Left Temporal Lobe. Been having seizures for 6 years now. All the pharmaceuticals I tried (Keppra, Depakote, etc.) didn't work for me, and had horrible side effects on me! Which triggered my seizures more from the horrible side effects they gave me! Until I had found out about CBD ingestion from marijuana and hemp! Dropped all my pharmaceuticals and started to only take CBD edibles. I then had much less seizures and they weren't as bad! (Gran Mals compared to Small Seizures). From deep research, I have found out our body actually has cannabinoid receptors. And CBD from Marijuana actually helps us and makes us more healthy! (Do personal research yourself for more CBD information). After finally finding out the benign tumor, in my brain, was actually making a wall to my brain cells traveling to other parts of my brain, which caused my seizures. I had to have brain surgery a year ago to make a small incision on the tumor to help my brain cells move. Which has not cured my Epilepsy. But has mad it much better! Having much less seizures and nowhere near as bad as they were!(No more back-to-back gran mal seizures!). What I have to say for final note is Marijuana does help, and is actually good for us! Just use it correctly. Eating CBD edibles is better than smoking CBD. You can still smoke, if strong highs from cannabis slightly trigger your seizures! (Try vaping at low temperatures to get high, not as strong, more clear-headed, and healthier!) It is what I started doing. And I also recommend the hand held vaporizer I use from a company called Pax. I have so much to say with what I have gone through! But if you need more information, let me know!

Hello @Lisa Annunziato-Wilmeth , I am 19 years old and I experienced my first seizure I've ever had this morning and was wondering if you could elaborate? I believe it was triggered from getting overheated as I had been laying on a heating pad right before it happened. I noticed myself getting lightheaded/dizzy, felt my body having hot flashes, then next thing i remember the person sitting next to me told me I was shaking violently with my head rolling back. Any help or advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

That sounds like a grand-mal seizure. I have them, but I might be wrong. When that happens, someone should put you on your side until it's done so you don't choke on any mucus, flem, vomit, cause then you would choke and might die if no one was there to help. Then lay down until you are starting to feel better. Don't eat too much for a while.

I was gutted, as all the hype states cannabis works well on epileptic. Not meThe reason I can categorically say it doesn't agree with me because the same thing happened after take HEMP CBD drops after a few days.

I had the same thing happen to me twice as well. Im 39 and the first time I was in my 20's and the 2nd time was very recently. Both times happened shortly after I smoked pot. I honestly think they are panic attacks brought on by the paranoia effects pot can give you which then lead to a partial seizure.

Submitted by Mrs Anne-Marie Sinner on Mon, 2018-12-10 - 11:45
I had two grand mal seizures last night after smoking recreational street weed. I ended up biting my husband (thank god I bit him instead of my tongue 'cause i would have bit it off!). The first one was mild in comparison to the second one. With the first one, I hyperventilated and was okay to be seated. But the second one is where I bit my husband, had severe convulsions, and my husband thought I died because of lack of breathing. It was absolutely terrifying.

I truly appreciate your attention to detail. My wife has epilepsy and we've been medicating her with medicinal cannabis. She too was on keppra, topiramate, and vimpat when it was a trial drug. I witnessed the seizures increase when she was on them. Ive done some studies and I'm still doing some studies on how the plant can be fully effective and not solely the CBD. Thank you for the advice on the vaporizer. We've recently made an investment with it and cbd carts. She too has dropped all pharmaceuticals and noticed a decrease in the severity of them and the frequency. Sometimes she goes to the er and they try to tell her it's because she's off the meds. Shes hasnt taken them in many years. I dont believe its the case. They haven't found exactly where in the brain they are triggered. You are a warrior and keep persevering.

I had my first seizure last night and I only had about 8 tokes of a blunt but I have been super stressed and tired lately I also suffer with a rare kidney disease and I am anaemic I also suffer with migraines because I have high blood pressure Hence why I smoke weed but I am not a heavy smoker and I do not smoke fags. last night I blacked out for 3-4 minuets I remember tilting my head back as I was sitting at the table with my eyes rolling to the back of my head I could feel I needed to be sick but I kept my mouth shut as I didn’t want to be sick and almost choked on my vomit if it wasn’t for my boyfriend forcing my mouth open I could have possibly died.. I stood up sweaty and confused and mixed emotions but shortly after I came round and I was back to normal could someone help me identity what caused this blip?

Submitted by amg88 on Thu, 2020-05-14 - 21:11
I just typed out my whole story twice, and if it deletes one more time I will probably start having a panic attack or (a seizure??) because I don't know what's wrong with me. Anyways, the gist of it is that I hit my head under my eyebrow one night, it started gushing blood. My boyfriend and I then got into a fight, so I was very emotional and stressed. I took a bong hit, and immediately started convulsing after release. I was drooling, hearing things, making weird guttural humming noises, and I had absolutely no control over my body. I felt very calm though. I came to with my back hanging over the edge of my chair and my head in a pool of bong water. I had destroyed pretty much everything (bong didnt break though). Once I came to, I stood up quickly without thinking and ran out of the room. It happened again the next day, and 10-15 times after that over a 4 month span. They started to occur less and less frequently.  I haven't experienced one in at least 3 months. But I still wonder what was happening to me. I had similar experiences before the head injury but not as severe. Both were after smoking. Both included loss of control and ringing in the ears, but none of the other symptoms. Also, one of those times I was severely malnourished. Anyone know what I experienced? Won't go to doctor because I pretty sure they will tell me to stop smoking and that is definitely not going to happen.
