seizures and short term memory loss

Mon, 02/13/2006 - 16:58
I may not have epilepsy, however one specialist that I did see said he had no doubts that I do, this was based on how my boyfriend described all 4 different types of seizure that he has seen thus far. I have had 5 head injuries from having seizures at the wrong time in the wrong place of my traylor. From these head injuries I now deal with short term memory loss. I have not been able to fully accept my disability yet so adding the memory loss has been very difficult for me. I rely on my daughter and boyfriend for any memory of the past three years of my life. I remember little about my high school days and even regarding past relationships. The memory loss has been one of my largest hurdels when it comes to my studies but I am determined too finish something I have wanted all my life. I always say, It's better to try then not to try at all. There are days when things overwelm me and all I want to do is hide from the world, other days I just lay in bed all day wanting too just give up. Yet the next day rolls around and somewhere somehow I find more strength to battle yet anither day in a life I don't feel comfertable with. May God bless you all, Joyce

Hi Joyce, Thanks so much for sharing your story with us. You have a very positive outlook, and I'm sure your determination will get you through all those hurdles that seem to come up so often. I am so glad you are finishing your studies ! You Go Girl !! I suffer from memory loss too, and much of it sounds like yours. i have both short term and long term memory loss, and it is definitely one of the harder things I have had to learn to deal with. Are you on any medication for your seizures? Are they helping? Best of luck in your continued journey, Barbie *************************************** "We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can fly only by embracing each other." -lucian de crescenzo

Hi Barbie, thank you for your response, it helps me knowing theres others out there who truly understand how hard it can be. No, I am not on any type of medications, have'nt been now for nearly 9 months. The amount of seizures I have are controlled by how I deal with the triggers. I took several self-help classes for my stress which helps at times but not always. I live in the country, state of oregon so there is little chance of making new friends so it is nice having the chance to talk with others such as your self.
