Sugar Addiction

Do you think that it's possible to be addicted to sugar? In this segment on ABC News Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum talks about his new book "Beat Sugar Addiction Now" and how sugar addiction can affect health negatively in a variety of ways. However, the article also points out that an article published in the journal Clinical Nutrition in June found that there is no evidence that sugar or any food can actually become addicting to humans. What do you think? Is sugar addictive? Can people be addicted to food?

I'VE BEEN LIVING WITH SEIZURES FOR 40 YRS AND THE ONE THING I CAN GUARANTEE IS THAT IF YOU INCREASE YOUR PROCESSED SUGAR INTAKE, YOU WILL LIVE WITH MORE RISK. THE SAME GOES FOR CAFFEINE AND MOST ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS.
THE ONLY THING YOU CAN INGEST AND LOWER YOUR RISK IS NATURAL FATS FROM FOODS SO, I'D TAKE CARE OF ANY SUGAR ISSUES IF YOU WANT TO GO SKIING AND CLIMB MOUNTAINS LIKE ME :)

Why do you think there has been no published research proving that sugar can be addictive? I'm somewhat playing Devil's Advocate here - I just ordered the Teitelbaum book ("Beat Sugar Addiction Now"). I like how the Teitelbaum book splits sugar addiction into four types (I think I have two of them, actually, from reading the contents on Amazon) - because it treats the root cause rather than the symptom. I certainly have a sugar problem, not sure I'm ready to use the big A word about it though. And I wanna climb mountains too! But I have some weight to lose before that's practical.

I think many people are addicted to sugar or at the very least like it a lot. I also think many people are addicted to carbs as a whole. It seems people love their sugary candy and their carb heavy snacks like chips. Being that sugar is carbs, I think there's an overall carb addiction amongst many people.
