How do you remember to take your medication?

Mon, 08/20/2007 - 12:50
Hello-I'm new here-I was diagnosed with epilepsy about 2 yrs ago. I had a seizure shortly after my son was born, and the EEG revealed epilepsy. I've been taking Lamictal 100mg in the morning and evening, and for the past few weeks I've been having a lot of trouble remembering to actually take it. I think partly this is due to some kind of resentment that I have to take it-if that makes any sense? I use a pill box, keep it by my nightstand, kept a small stash of lamictal in the kitchen incase I'm too lazy to actually get the pill box out of the bedroom. Honestly, the time comes to take it, I have every intention of taking it and the I wake up or get to work and realize that I didn't take it. I understand the dangers of inconsistency, and I really need to get better at this. Thanks in advance!

I keep a pill box set up for one week, and I keep it in the kitchen instead of the bathroom. Was told by several drs. that keeping medication in a damp area can make it ineffective. Also, after taking each dose, I leave the lid open so I will know at a glance if I have taken that dose. It helps my husband to keep track of whether I have taken it.

i have to use a pill box just to remind me if i took my meds or not.what i do is set an alarm at my night stand for my first dose in the morning and if that doesnt work (if i ignore it) i set my cellphone to remind me as a back up and to remind me of the doses to follow.i also try to eat at the same time everyday so when i eat i should take my meds.my sister and mom also have their alarms on their cellphones remind them when its time for my medication and they call me to remind me to take my meds.i am also new to seizures so i know how hard it is to adapt to taking meds everyday and i understand the resentment of having to take meds.because having to take them to me ,is to admit that things have changed and i NEED to take them.

I use a pill box, with morning and evening, because I only take meds twice a day. I take so many different things, it just makes it easier to put them in a pill box. The routine is, wake up, take pills, before going to bed, take pills. Sad story of my life.
