How do you remember to take your medication?

Mon, 08/20/2007 - 12:50
Hello-I'm new here-I was diagnosed with epilepsy about 2 yrs ago. I had a seizure shortly after my son was born, and the EEG revealed epilepsy. I've been taking Lamictal 100mg in the morning and evening, and for the past few weeks I've been having a lot of trouble remembering to actually take it. I think partly this is due to some kind of resentment that I have to take it-if that makes any sense? I use a pill box, keep it by my nightstand, kept a small stash of lamictal in the kitchen incase I'm too lazy to actually get the pill box out of the bedroom. Honestly, the time comes to take it, I have every intention of taking it and the I wake up or get to work and realize that I didn't take it. I understand the dangers of inconsistency, and I really need to get better at this. Thanks in advance!

To Believe: Find a reason why you take your meds. TV show, daily event timer. I still use the wake up take meds, go to bed take meds method, but you need to find something that works for you.

HI BOBBYSMOMMY, I HAVE A BRAIN INJURY, AND FOUND NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED, I COULD NOT REMEMBER TO TAKE MY MEDS. I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THE PILL BOX METHOD, AND HAVE STRUGLED FOR YEARS. I HOWEVER, DID FIND SOMETHING THAT HAS HELPED ME ENORMOUSLY. EACH NIGHT, I PUT ALL THE MEDS I NEED TO THE NEXT MORNING, IN AN OLD PILL BOTTLE, AND SET IT ON MY DRESSER. I HAVE AN ALARM CLOCK WITH TWO ALARMS. SO AT NIGHT, I SET THE ALARM FOR THE FIRST TIME I NEED TO TAKE MY MEDS IN THE MORNING, AND I ALL READY HAVE THE PILLS, IN THE BOTTLE, SET BACK ON MY DRESSER. I THEN SET THE ALARM FOR THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO TAKE THE MEDS. IN THE MORNING, AFTER I TAKE THE FIRST DOSE, I HAVE ALL READY SET THE ALARM FOR THE SECOND DOSE, SO I KNOW ALL I NEED TO DO IS PUT THE NEXT MEDS IN THE NOW EMPLY PILL BOTTLE. I FOLLOW THE SAME PROCEEDURE AND RESET THE ALARM ALL DAY, AND EACH TIME, TAKE THE MEDS. AND THEN PUT IN WHAT I NEED TO TAKE NEXT. ONCE YOU GET THE HANG OF IT, IT REALLY WORKS. I ALSO DO IT FOR THE MEDS I NEED TO TAKE AT NIGHT. THAT WAY, I KNOW THAT I AM TAKING THE MEDS AT THE TIME PRESCRIBED, AND HAVE THEM SPACED EQUALLY. THERE ALSO WRIST WATCHES WITH ALARMS, BUT I DO NOT HAVE ONE OF THEM YET. THIS TECHNIQUE HAS BEEN WORKING FOR ME, FOR MORE THAN A YEAR, AND IT IS THE FIRST TIME I AM ACTUALLY REMEMBERING. GRANTED, IT IS HARD WHEN THE ALARM RINGS AND YOU ARE HAVING A S., BUT SOMETIMES YOU JUST CAN'T CONTROL CIRCUMSTANCES, AND AT LEAST THIS WAY YOU ARE TAKING YOUR MEDS AS WELL AS YOU CAN, WITHOUT ENDANGERING YOURSELF. MY POST ICTALS CAN LAST 6 HOURS, UNLESS I HAVE HAD OTHER S. INBETWEEN AND DON'T NOW IT, SO YES, THAT DOES MAKE IT DIFFICULT. HOWEVER, AT LEAST I AM NOT OVERDOSING MYSELF!!! HOPE THIS HELPS YOU, IF NOTHING ELSE HAS! LORD KNOWS I TRIED EVERYTHING FOR YEARS!! JAN

i have timers around that go off when i need to take my meds and my pill containers are all out in the open where i can see them. not where i will forget about them. what if you have children you ask? well thts different then. also i have an extra stash of everything i take in my purse for when im at work or just not home when i know im gonna have to be taking my meds. p.s. on top of the fact that i have about a thousand different people nagging at me to remind me to take my medication...... im not bound to forget this time. my boyfriend (he's the worst but i love him anyway), my boss, my doctor, my asst. manager of the hotel, various relatives that see me..... when life gives you lemons... smell an orange
