How do you remember to take your medication?

Hello-I'm new here-I was diagnosed with epilepsy about 2 yrs ago. I had a seizure shortly after my son was born, and the EEG revealed epilepsy. I've been taking Lamictal 100mg in the morning and evening, and for the past few weeks I've been having a lot of trouble remembering to actually take it. I think partly this is due to some kind of resentment that I have to take it-if that makes any sense? I use a pill box, keep it by my nightstand, kept a small stash of lamictal in the kitchen incase I'm too lazy to actually get the pill box out of the bedroom. Honestly, the time comes to take it, I have every intention of taking it and the I wake up or get to work and realize that I didn't take it. I understand the dangers of inconsistency, and I really need to get better at this. Thanks in advance!

My son (19 yrs old) keeps is meds by his bed. He takes them everynight before going to sleep and in the morning when he gets up. If he goes out (weekends) he takes his meds before he leaves. (at this age they don't go out until 9-10pm. If he sleeps out he puts his meds in a baggie and labels them am/pm. In 6 1/2 years he's never missed a dose.

My 17 year old daughter has a pill box, divided into a.m. and p.m. She keeps it in her bathroom and takes her meds as she's washing and brushing her teeth in the morning and at night. It has worked well for her and we have better compliance. It is a box that allows each day to separate from the others and is handy when she's going on a sleepover. Sometimes when things become so automatic and it's like being on autopilot, it's hard to remember if you took them or not. One glance at the pill box will tell you.

I have the identical pill box, Sue. It is seven days worth of am and pm boxes. I would suggest NOT having the extra stash of pills to go to. It defeats the entire purpose of using the box to remind you! Sue is correct: All it takes is a quick glance to know whether or not you've taken your meds. After 40 years of medicine taking, I have to say this is what works best for me. Buona fortuna! Good luck! Anna "...Only God never changes." St. Theresa of Avila
