Seizures from adrenaline?

Thu, 12/03/2009 - 00:56

Has anyone heard of adrenaline as a trigger for tonic clonic and simple and complex partial seizures?

My 18 year old son has been having simple and complex partial seizures during soccer games and while playing computer video games the last few months.  He had four Grand MS in the last four years, but three were in the first six months-three and a half years ago. Two were while playing a computer video game for a long period of time--world of warcraft and one at the movie (cars).  After that they put him on 200 mg of Lamictal--and he had just one about two years ago during an intense type of board game.  In the last four months he seems to be having Simple Partial Seizures and Complex Partial Seizures--10 total.  One on a first date.  A few playing video games and the majority playing high level soccer.  He currently takes 500 mg of Lamictal.

What I am wondering is if anyone has heard of adrenaline causing seizures?  He has never had a seizure at any other time and has never had a seizure while playing a video game that was not on the computer.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.   We are headed to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for the first week of January and I'm trying to gather all the information I can.

 Thanks!

Hope everything is going well with your son.

I was wondering what you found out at the Mayo clinic?  My son is 10 and has all of his seizures (complex partial) during intense play, video games or in situations involving conflict.  None of the drugs or diets that we have tried seem to touch his seizures and he has anywhere from 1- 4 a day.  They last around 10 minutes and are starting really dirupt his life.  In fact it seems with each therapy we try they become worse.

The answer is Yes - I am 48 and have adrenaline seizures - I am taking Beta Blocker which has made the seizures stop by blocking the adrenaline hitting my nervous system. It is important to stop them as over time it will damage your heart. Dr Greg Scalia from the Wesley Hospital Brisbane was the only doctor over a 3 and half year period to work it out and gave me a solution within 10 mins of our meeting. Amazing man. Knows what he is talking about.

I hope this helps, it did for me...
