Pseudo Seizures

Fri, 01/20/2006 - 13:47
Hi there, Im hoping someone out there can help me out. I have just returned from the A & E Department of my local Hospital after being sent their by my GP due to my having 2-3 seizures a day and having a real bad headache down the left side of my head and weakness on my right side. After being treated as what can only be described as a slab of meat I was told that I was having pseudo seizures to cover up my stress that I was under and that the medication I was on was enough to knock out a horse and that I was using these seizures to get out of situations. I did try to assure the Doctor that I am not stressed and am just a normal 35 year old mother of two wonderful kids, who is happily married and works full time but all he said was that he was trying to give me the chance to "admit" that I knew I was doing this in order for him to help me further. When I assured him that I dont remember going into seizure and that this had been the case for 12 years he then said he couldnt help and that I would have to wait 7-8 weeks for a so called urgent referral. To say I feel totally disheartened and extremely upset would be an understatement and although I am waiting to see my GP on Tuesday and I dont know what to do now. Any advice anyone can give would be really gratefully received. Please help as I want my life back. Star xx

To kimby86, my daughter has

To kimby86, my daughter has ccomplex partial seizures with white matter damage. She first presented sleep apnea, thenwith petite mal . By age one her first grand mal , one over 20 mins. By two she had every test I could find and a second oppinion sent us on a trip to Kennedy Krieger Institute to see specialist in white matter damage. All the while she would twitch every time she slept . No one would say it was seizures. I had seen so many eegs I could see it myself but so many people were so rigid in what they thought it looked like on paper and in the child I could see the patterns. We got a diagnosis of " she doesn't fit any true diseases we are studying" in Baltimore. Watch her. "  Seven year I worked with an eeg tech to map her twitches with small spikes. Seizures driven sleep apnea was the diagnosis finally. He white matter damage has shown some healing over the years but epilepsy persists. Without even two pills of the cocktail of drugs she takes she is in grand mal. But our neurologist in Wichita was so wonderful. Even though she is a one of a kind kid. He walked each step. He says the water a girl may hold when having her menses  is held in the brain as well. A simple water pill has been a godsend. She had these hormonal symptoms for a year before Mendes onset. On another note several meds made her worse. Keppravwas our wonder drug. When added to lamictal, lorazepam and gabitril we finally got control. Don't give up even when the tests can't capture things after the fact. Get a new Dr when you hit a stump. I've met a lot of des who were somebody's C student and are just plain mediocre. Some are outstanding.
