What is ECHO Epilepsy/Neurology?

The University of Cincinnati Gardner Neuroscience Institute and the Epilepsy Foundation are piloting Project ECHO® for epilepsy and neurology to help primary care clinicians and other health care professionals improve care for adults with epilepsy and other neurological conditions.

ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a telementoring program. It links primary care providers and epilepsy specialists in an interactive teleconference format to expand primary care providers’ access to epilepsy training and specialized care for their patients.

  • During an ECHO session, primary care providers can ask epilepsy specialists questions about the treatment and management of their patients with epilepsy and other neurological disorders. They can also learn more about best practices.
  • The ECHO sessions provide a short, didactic presentation, case-based discussions, and abundant Q&A to optimize the learning experience.
  • Half of the pilot phase ECHO Epilepsy/Neurology sessions will focus on care of people with epilepsy. The other sessions will address migraine, Parkinson’s disease, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease.
  • ECHO Epilepsy/Neurology will ensure that more people with epilepsy in and around Ohio get the specialty care that they need.
