Helping Underserved Communities Around the Globe

In the most recent episode of Hallway Conversations, Epilepsy.com Editor-in-Chief Dr. Joseph Sirven interviews Scott Boyer, CEO of OWP Pharmaceuticals and Board Chair of the ROW Foundation, and Kurt Florian JD, executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago and Board Member of Solidarity Bridge. The ROW Foundation, which is funded via the profits of OWP Pharmaceuticals, focuses on funding projects on research, diagnosis, and treatment of epilepsy. Solidarity Bridge engages in complex medical partnerships throughout Bolivia to create sustainable programs with Bolivian physicians.

Boyer and Florian elaborated on the collaboration among ROW Foundation, OWP Pharmaceuticals, and Solidarity Bridge to create an epilepsy clinic in Cochabamba, Bolivia, with the local hospital, Hospita Belga. Before the establishment of this clinic, Bolivia lacked any epilepsy clinics and people living with epilepsy needed to leave the country for treatment access. The clinic is self sustaining and Bolivian doctors Skype to consult with neurologists and epileptologists in the United States. To assist Solidarity Bridge with the project, ROW Foundation and OWP Pharmaceuticals donated a case of Levetiracetam to treat patients in the materno-infantile treatment. Without this resource, people living with epiliepsy in Bolivia who could not afford traveling for treatment would have to live with their untreated epilepsy and seizures.
