My mother died at age 23 (I was 3). This possibly has made my want to live the life my mother barely had a chance to live. I have embraced the possibility I could live a shorter life and made peace with that - sudden unexplained death is much higher in those with epilepsy. Seeing your mother die at 23 makes you feel quite old and fortunate at 41. Osteopenia due to taking dilantin has allowed me to break ribs 2 times, and clavicle once. Yes, allowed me....to look at it otherwise makes me a "victim" of epilepsy. I refuse to think that way. I fall several times a week, but until I kept a seizure diary, I had a distorted view of how many times I had seizures. They happen, and just like a child falling...

I had epilepsy since around age 12 and was put on Tegretol. The medication controlled my seizures until I got pregnant. Here is my story of how that changed everything.
