My Surgery

I started having seizures when I was only 17 yrs old and pregnant with my first child. I wastoldI had anxiety attacks.. and post partal syndrom. I was finally sent to Indiana University and diagnosed with partial complex seizres. After a year of testing in 1986 I was one of the first to undergo a Right temporalobectomy. (I have it on tape)It was a complete success and I was seizure free for 10 years. Enough time to become a cardiac nurse. In 1996 I was involved in a wreck and began having seizures again..much to my dismay. In 2004 I had a wreck that totaled my car and almost cost me my life. (Airbags work well.) So, I once more dicided to have surgery "too get the rest of it". I was prety much guaranteed thatmy seizures would stop. In Dec of 2005 I underwent my second Right temporalobectomy. In the recovery ooomthe nnurse noticed that my left side wasn't working correctly and quickly got the sugeons back in to see about me. I had a hematoma (blood clot) in the right temporal lobe. After removing the hematoma. I couldn't see or move my left side. It has now been almost 12 months and I have all the movement restored to my left side but I have no left peripheral visionin either eye. I also still have seizures. I have ahd 2 seizures this year and they are much worse than before. They last longer and my left side draws, (as if I'm having a stroke) I think since that's the side that was was affected by the hematoma. I had a TERRIBLLE experience with the drug Topamax. Although I had been on it for 2 years when the dose was increased I had the worst expeience of my life. I thought I was losing my mmind. I had racing thoughts and althought I knew I was acting bizarre I couldn't help myself. Once I was hospitalized and taken off the topamax. (over a period of days) I felt fine. I now am on Keppra.
