I am 18 years old, and I have been diagnosed with epilepsy for 5 years now. The first day when I had my first seizure was when I was in school and all of a sudden I couldn't control my body-it was shaking so bad I didn't know what was going on. So the nurse came and called my parents and drove me to the emergency room.

Doctors didn't think it was anything because it was the first time it happened so then I just went home, but after that I kept getting them. Now I am not allowed to do what a lot of kids are allowed to do like hang out late at night, sleep over or even drive.

But I never knew that something like this could happen to me. I thought that if I was good, if I was obedient that nothing would happen to me, that this would all go away, but it didn't. Then when that didn't work I thought that it was a joke that they were just playing with me-that I was not sick. But I am and I have to start accepting the fact that I might not get better.
