Shopko Joins Global Campaign ‘Lemonade for Livy’ to Support Local Epilepsy Foundations

Epilepsy News From: Wednesday, July 20, 2016

Lemonade Stands Open July 29th - August 5th at All Shopko Retail Locations

Landover, MD – Epilepsy Foundation’s “Lemonade for Livy” campaign has announced its partnership with the national retail chain, Shopko. Over 300 retail stores will join the campaign with lemonade stands hosted at various participating stores. This partnership will help encourage and promote the need for continued support of epilepsy programs and research funding.

Today, 3 million people in the US have epilepsy, including over 300,000 children under the age of 15. “This unique partnership broadens the Epilepsy Foundation’s ability to reach more families across the country, and will educate the public about the impact of epilepsy and seizures,” said Philip M. Gattone, president and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation. “The Epilepsy Foundation is proud to partner with Shopko in this important campaign. The outstanding management and staff at Shopko retail stores will generously provide customers the opportunity to directly support ‘Lemonade for Livy’ through their purchases while also enjoying a homemade glass of lemonade.”

“The Epilepsy Foundation provides critical support to families across the country, so Shopko is proud to partner with the organization on its ‘Lemonade for Livy’ campaign,” said Peter McMahon, Shopko CEO. “Simple acts of kindness, such as donating to this campaign while visiting Shopko, are important to the success of the communities we are privileged to serve.”

In 2011, Lemonade for Livy started as a small initiative to help Olivia “Livy” Scheinman and now it has become the official campaign for the Epilepsy Foundation. Shortly after birth, Livy had her first seizure. She was then diagnosed with a brain malformation resulting in multifocal partial epilepsy. Today at age 11, Livy with the help of her twin sister Hailey, mom, and dad, each day is dedicated to finding a cure for epilepsy. Meet Hailey and Livy.

Even though Livy can’t speak, she inspires me and many others to participate and to give back to the community. In 2016, we are very excited to continue spreading Lemonade for Livy across the United States and around the world!”
