ALCOHOL

Hello everyone.

I saw a neurologist for the first time. He told me that one unit of alcohol per day (4 ounces of wine, one beer or 1.5 ounces of spirits) is fine while I am on medicine.

Has anyone heard the same thing?

Re: ALCOHOL

Yes-sort-of.  I don't know what medications you are on, but I was told beer was ok, but that I should not consume anything with sulfites (such as wine).

Re: ALCOHOL

I am sure he is right.  If you have a mild form of epilepsy and your drug dosage is relatively low small amounts of alcohol should do you no harm.  I enjoy drinking wine, moderately, and would miss it if I did not.  What I do have to be careful about, however, is the dehydration even small amounts of alcohol can cause as this, more than anything else, seems to be a sufficient condition for my seizures to occur, alcohol or no alcohol.  Dehydration appears to effect the activity of the drug I take (Lamictal), its serum levels, etc though I have not explored the subject in detail.
