depakote will push levels of lamictal up trust me.. I have felt a lot better try it for a while u will see. It will take time to get off the other stuff but trust me it works man!!!!

I don't know anything about Depekote and Lamictol mixing I am on Lamictol right now and have been on Depikote and was on it for 10 yrs. it was the first seizure med. they put me on when I was diagnosed with them when I was 14 and I was on it for 10yrs. you may have been on it for longer now I don't know but all I know is be carfull that stuff (Depekote) made my hair fall out it was really really bad. I have very very thick hair and when it fell out I almost went bald when they took me off of it i was so happy after about 2yrs. my hair came back and I was very happy and also Depekot has a class action law suite out on it for its side effects so be carefull.

Phenobarbital induces an enzyme that metabolizes lamotrigine

Phenobarbital induces the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1 family of enzymes that glucuronidate lamotrigine (LTG). LTG is the active ingredient in Lamictal. I know someone who was on 60 mg/day of phenobarbital and 200 mg/day of Lamcital. Her LTG level was less than 1 ug/ml (microgram per ml), which was the lower limit of LTG detection. Because phenobarbital induces many liver enzymes, such as UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1, many liver enzymes are elevated and this increase in enzyme activity affects the metabolism of many, but not all, drugs.

Hi Shelia,

I also take the Lamictal. I take 200mg twice daily. I still have seizures

but they are once or twice a month. It is not as much as you are experiencing.

I used to take Tegrelol ages ago and several other drugs too. I had brain

surgery 12 years ago, and it completely stopped all seizures during the day

however, they occur when asleep. Good luck finding the right dosage for you

so it becomes more effective.

Hello ! I had surgery as you 10 years ago. And now I have seizures when asleep, as you. But I have been hurt falling from bed to floor. Now I am trying to get surgery second time....hoping it could help. I think nothing is worse than seizure, not even death..........

Well I take three 25 mg pills of Lamictal and one 400 mg pill of Tegretol. I do this in the morning and again at night. I have found that this works better than the Topamax that I was taking a few weeks ago. But I have heard that there are some medications that can weaken other medications. When I was taking Topamax and Tegretol together it drove me CRAZY. THey just didn't mix well. You will find two that mix well. Just takes some searching. But I have have had positive effects with Lamictal. I believe it works well. Penabarbital I haven't tried yet. Don't give up!

THANK YOU, I WANT MY DOCTOR TO ADD ANOTHER MED. SO I CAN GET OFF THE PHENO., I CAN'T TAKE TEGRATOL OR KEPPRA, THE CAUSE ME TO HAVE GRAND MALS AND I HAD TO BE HOSPITALIZE. I JUST HOPE I FIND A SOLUTION.

I am on Topamax 100Mg 2 pills 2 times a day, and the Lamictal 100 Mg 3 pills 2 times a day I was on Tegretol XR 200 MG 1 tb 2 times a day but they took me off and I still have seizures everyday. So is it the Lamictal? Also I was on Keppra and it didn't help my Gran-mals and it made me very aggresive.

Hi,
I take lamictal (200mg 2x daily). I also take Epilim (1500mg daily) and have been fortunate to have not had a seizure in nearly 2 years. It does come with the added side effect of making you very tired. Maybe it would be worth asking your neurologist about the possibility of different drug combinations if Lamictal doesn't seem to be working as effectively as you would like. Good luck.

Hi,
The Tegretol I was on took away my Gran-mals and I have been free of those for 2yrs. now but that was thanx to the Tegretol but they took me off of that now I am worried they may come back. The Lamicatal does make me very tiered but i still have my petit-mal seizures everyday even while I take the lamictal and the Topamax. Thanx for the advice when I see my Neurologist in May I will ask him about it thanx for the help!
