TAKE CONTROL TODAYHi everyone. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem as I do. I was in a car accident about 6 years ago. A big truck pulled out infront of my on the HWY. I hit him going about 90km/hour. I wasn't physically hurt, or so we thought. I went to the hospital and they figured I had a concussion and sent me home. About 2 weeks after that I started to experiecne spells where I felt like I was going to pass out. I was getting them at least once a day. When I asked my doctor about it he told me it was anxiety about driving. About a month after the car accident, I was riding my horse and I remember not feeling "right". Then the next thing I remember is walking my horse, which I had no idea who/what it was. I was yelling "mom" even though I didn't know who mom was. My parents took me to the hospital and they chalked it up to anxiety again. After that I kept getting these episodes of wanting to pass out.
It was after that that I was driving down a gravel road when all of a sudden I could feel myself passing out. I hit the ditch, went thru a fence and rolled 3X. The girl that was with me had to pull me out of the car. They took me to the hospital and again had no idea what happened. After that I was having full out episodes, including slurred speech and confussion. Finally they sent me to an Epilepsy clinic where I was diagnosed.
I have had numerous EEG's, sleep devprived and regular, and MRI's. They can't seem to find the part of my brain that is doing this to me. Because of my symptoms I have been diagnosed with complex partial seizures. In one sleep deprived they found slight slowing in the left temporal lobe but nothing conclusive. It's frustrating not knowing why this is happening. I have responded very well to the meds. I'm on 100mg lamtrigine 2X daily. So it's a pretty small dose and I seem to handle it well. But like I said it's frustrating when we have no idea why this is happening. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this too?
Thanks and sorry it's such a long post!
Mindy

You might ask your doc about a MEG ( Magnetoencephalography) test.
To some degree, MEG is similar to EEG (electroencephalography). An important difference is that the skull and the tissue surrounding the brain affect the magnetic fields measured by MEG much less than they affect the electrical impulses measured by EEG.
The advantage of MEG over EEG is therefore greater accuracy owing to the minimal distortion of the signal. This allows for more usable and reliable localization of brain function.
When MEG is added to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which shows brain structure, the combination of the images is extremely helpful for identifying areas of the brain that may be generating a potential for seizures, as well as for localizing the electrical activity in normal brain function. http://my.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/meg_intro
