Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.
TAKE CONTROL TODAYI have now had two seizures in 8 months. I have not been told I cant drive by my Doctor but everyone else (medical staff) is telling me I should not be driving. My state does not require my Dr to call in but the laws state I cant drive for 6 months seizure free.
I have not worked in a week because I have been going through testing (had my 2nd seizure last week) I need to drive for my job but I am also not driving because I am no fool and could never live with myself if I hurt someone while driving if I had another seizure.
When I asked my doctor about this he quickly changed my paperwork to possible fainting (we both know I didnt faint)
What do I do?

I have to admit that I lied about my epilepsy, yet did flawlessly on my driver's test. In 10 days, I hit 6 non-moving objects. Finally when I wrapped the car around a cement pillar in the parking garage, I gave up and didn't drive for another 10 YEARS, until I was seizure-free.

Firstly, good on you for fully understanding the consequences of driving and choosing not to, despite needing to. There's unfortunately a lot of people out on the roads who are technically banned, who are adament "they'll be fine." The nature of ep is we can't know.
Secondly, your doctor is a moron, and if he's changed your paperwork then he's guilty of falsifying medical records. Not only could he get himself in legal trouble, it can affect the outcome of any subsequent tests/treatments you have, and also your insurance. If he has done that then I'm afraid he needs to be reported.
If driving is necessary for your job, well sadly you can't. If your state laws dictate 6 months sz-free then you have to go with that. Driving laws are there for a reason, and 6 months is very generous really, most of the rest of the world is 1 year., for good reason.
You'll obviously need to talk about this to your employer, and find out about disability/employment laws in your state. Sometimes it's a requirement that your employer give you a position that doesn't involve driving.
Good luck.

Thank you for the responces. I do have a job where I can be home based and my company is looking into doing this for me as I am a top sales rep. But everyone is gone for a week so its all been put on hold. I do not want to go on disability because of that. I can work from home and still be employed.
I called my Drs office today and have an appointment next tuesday and will talk in detail about this with my Dr. The last thing I want to do is give up my licence but being the mother of a teenager who is getting her licence in two weeks I understand WHY I NEED TO BE OFF THE ROAD!! I could never live with myself if I caused an accident.
I do know when a SZ is coming on but I dont even want to chance having to pull the car over in fear of where I will be and if I had time. My SZ's also take so much out of me and I would never be able to drive afterwards. The two I have had I was so out of it for DAYS AFTERWARDS.
Thank you again for the words of wisdom
I can understand some of what you are going through.
Is it part of your requirments for your job, that you drive?
If so, be very carefull. I have my licence and have had a really bad bad accident. I thank GOD I was not badly hurt and did not hurt anyone.
I get a strange sick kind of feeling right before I have a seizure and sometimes I can catch it and go somewhere to be safe. So I will not hurt myself or someone else.
If you get a sub-seizure warning while driving, make sure you know if you will have enough time to put on your hazard lights and put the car in park as fast as you can even pull to the side of the road.
I had come from CVS and missed taking my meds that moringing. I had an accident. I thought I could make it home before the seizure happen, but I was wrong. I continue to thank GOD whenever I think about it.
Do you know when you are about to have seizure? Don't think you would be able to do anything until the seizure passess. You are having them back to back and often is what you have to look at closely. Look at how and what you were doing the last couple of times you had a seizure and keep it in mind before you get in the car to drive. Please Be Very Carefull. You know yourself and how you are feeling better then anyone else around you.
If you question yourself one day you are about to drive, I would not drive if I was you.
Be Blessed
