Epilepsy & Employment

Ever since I graduated high school, I have had so many different jobs, because I have been wrongfully dismissed so many times.  They would tell me how great of a job I am doing, and then I would eventually have a seizure in the workplace, and 2 days later, they would wrongfully dismiss me.  That began to stress me out, and create more seizures for me, from being stressed out.

With my current full-time job, they know not to wrongfully dismiss me, because I have this new membership that is protecting me with and legal matters I can come across to, such as wrongful dismissal.  This is protecting me so much, and giving me such a positive result in my life.

If you want to hear more about this, feel free to message me, or e-mail me at kjbos.ppl@gmail.com   All the best.

Greetings From  Blessing.

My name is Blessing from Republic of Sudan. Presently in Dakar Senegal 24 years of age.

I am so decided to extend my felicitations to you. Presently i can not really specify what prompted my drive to write but i did have the mind that you could be a nice person. I have the interest to meet people from out side my continent and felicitate. It is my believe that there are nice people out there who can appreciate the values of friendship. Personal I might not be very beautiful physically like most ladies in your country but I think I have the beauty of the mind, which is more valuable to me.

Please write me if you can. I am single and focus. I wouldn’t say i am good but will leave that to you to find out with time. As allowing others to access you is a humble act...Hope to receive a message from you. It will be very much appreciated getting to know you much better and share our experience and good wills about our respective continents.

I will send you my photo in my next reply. I will appreciate as well if you send yours to me in your next mail. With due respect i ask, do tell me some briefs about you. Your love life, what you do appreciate in a woman in general and your dislikes. Lest I forget I am not a white lady rather simply colored and wish you do not mind as I have the concept that we all are the same irrespective of our colors. The inner person to me is most important, friendships to me is a right of all humans and if properly inclined could add to once happiness.

My greetings to all your good and loving family were ever you live. Please do write me back soonest I will appreciate from the dept of my heart..You can also write me through my address:  blesingcale@yahoo.in

Your friend,
Blessing

Hi  kjbosman,

I had a seizure at work about 6 months ago and my boss was really good about it. He drove me home and rang my partner to let her know, so i was lucky there. However he recently said to me in a disciplinary meeting "one day you were found walking around in a daze, and we kept you on so we have been pretty good to you". He said this in a very sarcastic way and i feel he is using it as power. Since then i have been looking for a new job and feel scared to write in the "do you have any health issues?" question on the application forms that i have epilepsy. On the forms it says i must answer all questions honestly or i could be legally viable. Im just worried that possible employers will see that and automatically decide not employ me. Do i HAVE TO write it?

I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, and the first conversation I had with my boss he tells me, "you should be on disability because as you are you're not doing me any good."  I looked him straight in the eye and said, "look man...I'm not disabled.  I just have a headache and my muscles hurt.  Give it a couple days and I'll be fine."

His response?  "Disability is for people who are crippled...it's why we have the plan...so go on it until you get over this."  I tried to explain to him that it's not a cold that I can 'get over' but he didn't seem to get it.  He had our office administrator pull out the paperwork for short term disability and I told him he could f**k himself as I put them in the recycle bin on my way out the door.

I came in to work the next day and every day since (I work more for the owner, not this asshat, so I sort of do whatever I want anyways) and he won't look me in the eye.  I think it scares him that he got sawdust in his eye for being in my workspace without proper eye protection and he took a week off and I have epilepsy and come to work every day with a smile on and do my job.

All that being said, I think he's looking for reasons to get rid of me now.  I unnerve him.  So I'm going to be twice as flawless and perfect as I was before so anything he does makes him look that much smaller and me that much more indominatable.  After everything I've been through in my life, I'm not letting epilepsy get me down.  If I ever get the axe I'll be emailing you for that info.

Scott ...

I would love to hear more about this.  It's so awful having to lose your job for having seizures at work.  I mean it's just as hard for many people (including myself) to get a job fearing that if you have a seizure you will lose said job.  Now i'm only 20, but for older folk who have families, that's a priority.  No job = no anything, so this is something more people should know about!
