Suspected seizure a few nights ago-was it a seizure,or something else?

I was diagnosed with epilepsy, encephalitis at the age of 9 and have been living with it for approximately 5 years ( I am now 14), having spent 4 months in Hospital and having to frequently return in the first year as I kept on getting sick.

Now, I have not had a seizure for over 3 years, when a few nights ago, I suspected it may have been one. I woke up one morning, with a massive, throbbing headache, and no willpower to do anything. I could see a trail of dried saliva lining from the side of my mouth, and the headache continued to dominate the entire area of my head for the entire day, seeming to get worse, and I only got temporary relief through sleep. This headache was similar to the one I got when I had a chest infection, suspected Swine Flu, but this time, I had no fever whatsoever, just one painful headache.

For the rest of the day, I stayed in bed, and decided to go to sleep much earlier when waves of nausea and vomiting started to sweep over me. I woke up the next morning, with a minor headache, but not as painful as the day before, and the day after it completely vanished.

For anyone who has a lot of experience with this disease, did that day of massive headache sound like it was triggered through an epileptic seizure,or just lack of sleep? I thought it might've been the latter, but I'd never experienced such a painful headache before when I didn't get enough sleep; on those days, I merely fell asleep every 5 minutes and such.

I know often the best idea is to consult a doctor, but I want to be sure and seek opinions from others who have more experience than me in this field; did this sound like a seizure to you? Or should I get checked anyway, just to be sure?

Thanks guys!

Re: Suspected seizure a few nights ago-was

I've had the same, usually I'm not consious during my seizures but recently I had the same experience you did without the preceeding headache. It was a seizure.

It might be too late now but usually when that happens you should check your tongue or the inside of your cheeks for bites. That's usually a pretty good giveaway. Other than that, I don't know much else about it...but to be honest, I think everyone can wake up with a headache especially if they didn't sleep well, ie if you slept in a bad position for your neck.

Actually, I've had two night seizures and they both happened last week. The first one must have been just before I woke up because I woke up feeling REALLY confused, plus muscle weakness and like I had lost my memory which is strange because you'd think "memory of what? you were sleeping!" but that's how I felt. Then the next one I had it around midnight because my mother witnessed it, I just kept sleeping and in the morning I had no idea I had had a seizure, until she told me and I checked my tongue and it looked like I had gotten pretty hungry lol. In all seriousness though, there was actually no headaches....either time. Hope that helps.

Good luck!
