New - Confused with un-answered questions.
Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.
TAKE CONTROL TODAYDoes anyone ever have completely restless nights where they just have repetatitive nonsensical but seemingly meaningful thoughts? I know that might sound confusing, but it makes it almost impossible to sleep. I will have this "dream like thought" except I'm awake over and over and over... stuff like I'm an elastic band that is trying to eat numbers. I feel sick the whole time and afterward. I have a huge list of unusual things that happen to me at night and during the day, but I haven't heard of anyone posting anything about this type of thing. I was just curious....

Oh I have had that! I hate it!
Last night I also had intense visuals that repeat and morph. I often wonder if it's related to the E. I feel frozen and suddenly I can see vividly all these dancing and totally surreal forms. Last night it was a sailor in the distance standing amid four bound ducks (through a duck shaped lattice) that would morph into different arrangements of the same scene over and over. Why??!!?
It just keeps you up all night. I wonder if it's an E thing or an everyone thing.
Relax, it's very likely they're only seizures. Since yours are at night, they might only be nocturnal seizures, which are very easy to control with medication. (Not only that, uncontrolled nocturnal seizures means you can still drive!) I used to have strange feelings; not by ducks, but I was afraid I was crazy. You need to see a neurologist. She'll order an EEG; most likely sleep deprived to help you fall asleep. Even if you don't experience that feeling or fall asleep during your EEG, it's still very likely to show "seizure activity." The more sleep deprivation, the more likely you'll fall asleep. You might 'nod off' for a few seconds, but it's still sleep.
The 'terrors' I was experiecing as a child turned into auras for convulsive seizures when I was 16. They might only be simple partial seizures, the kind you're currently feeling. Even if your doctor refuses to say "epilepsy" (some don't because of the stigma associated with the word) if he says you have a seizure disorder, it's most likely epilepsy. If they're non-epileptic seizures, (very rare) he does have to tell you. Since I'm not your doctor, I can't diagnose it, but it sounds like seizures.
Complex partial starts in one part of the brain, then spreads to the rest of the brain. It's safer than Generalized Seizures, which start through the entire brain. They look the same
It's better (and safer) to have auras before a seizure, so you can have a chance to sit down before the convulsive seizure happens. I no longer have auras so I need to wear a helmet. Helmets can be "cool!" A little girl was wearing a helmet and asked how I liked it. I told her to turn around, told her she looked "Cool", then asked her how she liked mine! Now her parents have trouble getting her to take it off at night or to shampoo her hair! I'm approached almost every day to tell me how much they like it. Sometimes when it's raining, they'll ask me if it's a good idea to ride my bike in the rain. I tell them, "I didn't ride my bike, I used my scateboard!" They laugh, and that's usually the end of it.
Once your neurologist gets you on some anti seizure medication, it could be all the help you need. Almost 85% of epileptic patients are completely controlled with medication. (I'm part of the other 15%.) Most can drive, work, swim, and do almost anything everyone else can do. (Except but drink alchohol.) When I'm in a restraunt and a waiter asks why I don't order drinks, I tell them, "I'm not 21 yet." Again, they laugh, and that's the end of it. Contact the EFA 1-800-332-1000. They can send you all the information you need to get started with your treatment.
You're NOT CRAZY!! Talk to a neurologist, he can help you more. Some parents don't understand, and might think it is a mental problem, instead of neuroligical. It's safest to see a neurologist. This website has a directory for finding one in your area.
Take care, and let me know how you're doing. (Just respond to this message, and I'll get a notice in my email.)
